2020 Sunfish Midwest Regional Championship Regatta

Notice of Race
(Release Date: July 8, 2020)

Organizing Authority: Lake Bluff Yacht Club

1.         Rules

1.1  The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of the United States Sailing Association, the rules of the International Sunfish class (except as any of these are altered by the sailing instructions) and by the sailing instructions.
1.2  All competitors shall wear personal flotation devices at all times while on the water except for brief periods for adjusting clothing. This modifies RRS 40.
1.3  TLE (Time limit expired)-Boats failing to finish within twenty (20) minutes after the first boat sails the course and finishes within the time limit will be scored TLE by the race committee without a hearing. This changes RRS 35, A4 and A5.

1.4  The Sailing Instructions may also change other racing rules.


2.         Eligibility and Registration

2.1  Each competitor shall be a 2020 member of the United States Sunfish Class Association. Each competitor must comply with and agree to the attached Covid - 19 Assessment, Consent and Release Form as a condition of eligibility.

2.2  Competitors must register electronically by completing the entry form and paying the registration form at  www.lakebluffyachtclub.org

2.3  Registration cost for this regatta is $35 per boat. This includes box lunches and after race refreshments for both Saturday and Sunday.
 

3.         SCHEDULE

 Saturday              

           1000 Competitor's Meeting

           1100 Warning for Race #1 with additional races to follow

           Lunch on the water.

           1600  No Warning signal will be made after this time

Sunday    

            1100  First Warning signal

          Lunch on the water

         1430  No Warning signal will be made after this time

          Awards ceremony after the conclusion of racing.


4. MEASUREMENT

Boats and equipment must be compliant with current ISCA rules.


5. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

The Sailing Instructions will be available electronically at www.lakebluffyachtclub.org on and after August 10, 2020.


6. VENUE

The regatta venue will be Lake Bluff Yacht Club on the Lake Bluff, IL South beach. Racing will be in the waters of Lake Michigan, east of the Lake Bluff South beach.


7. THE COURSES

The courses will be windward – leeward, triangles, or combinations thereof.


8. SCORING

8.1  The Low Point Scoring System, RRS Appendix A4, shall apply, as modified by the Sailing Instructions and explained below.

8.2  One (1) race is required to constitute a series.

8.3  A maximum of twelve (12) races will be sailed.

8.4  When fewer than six (6) races have been completed, a boats series score will be the total of her race scores.  This modifies RRS A2.1.

8.5  When six (6) to eleven (11) races have been completed, a boats series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst race. This modifies RRS A2.1.
8.6  When twelve (12) races have been completed, a boat
s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her two worst scores. This modifies RRS A2.1.
8.7-TLE (Time limit expired) is added as a Scoring Abbreviation. Boats scored TLE will be scored points equal to the number of boats finishing within the time limit plus two points by the race committee without a hearing. This changes RRS A4 and A5.


9. Prizes

 Prizes will be awarded to the top 5 boats.
 

10. General Information:

10.1 Parking Restrictions and Car Access:  There is no parking at Lake Bluff Beach. Competitors trailering their boats will be asked to drop off their boat and park at the top of the bluff, or at a remote location, if requested by the Village of Lake Bluff or the Lake Bluff Park DIstrict.  Beach access for cars and trailers will be limited to befoe 1000 hrs on August 15th and to after the awards ceremony on August 16th.  Competitors wishing to drop off boats at the Lake Bluff Yacht Club storage compound on Friday, August 14, 2020 should contact Doug Warren, Regatta Chair, (847 204-7023).

10.2 Covid 19 Issues:  While on land, competitors will be required to maintain social distancing or to wear a facial mask when distancing is not practical. Space is limited on South beach and competitors may be assigned a time slot for rigging after which a competitor will be required move their boat from the rigging area.. Competitors will be asked to reconfirm at the time of the Regatta, the information given in the attached Covid - 19 Assesment, Consent and Release Form. Due to Covid - 19 issues, no housing is available for competitors.

10.3 Berthing of Boats:   Boats may be stored overnight on August 15th within the Lake
Bluff Yacht Club boat storage compound.

Waiver of Liability

I agree to be bound by the Racing Rules of Sailing and by all other rules that govern this event. In consideration for its sponsorship of this event, I hereby release the event organizers, their officers, employees, agents and members from any and all claims for damages for death, and personal injuries or property damage in any manner related to this event or the operation of the event organizers. I hereby acknowledge that it is always the individual responsibility of each skipper to determine whether to start or to continue racing. I hereby release Lake Bluff Yacht Club (LBYC”), its officers, directors, agents, servants, volunteers, and employees while I am participating in or practicing for any contest or exhibition of an athletic or sports nature sponsored by LBYC, including the 2020 Sunfish Midwest Regional Championships. I recognize and understand that the event is voluntary in nature and participation is at the invitation of LBYC. I recognize that I incur risks attendant to sail and water-related activities, particularly in inclement weather, and I assume the risk of any bodily injury that I may incur while participating in the Event. I fully agree to waive any and all claims, charges, losses and liabilities, including those caused by negligence, that LBYC, its respective officers, directors, agents, servants, volunteers, and employees might have for, and agree that LBYC, its respective officers, directors, agents, servants, volunteers, and employees shall not be liable for, any bodily injury to myself incurred while I am participating in the event or which may arise from, or in any way be in connection with, the activities of the events and/or its organizers. I am aware that the activities may involve maneuvering a boat or other watercraft in deep waters in potentially hazardous conditions which may include, without limitation, air temperatures, strong winds and currents, high waves, sudden and unexpected immersion in deep waters and collision with other watercraft or stationary objects such as docks, pilings and buoys. I understand that I am responsible for my actions while I may be participating in the Regatta. I further hereby release and discharge LBYC, and its respective officers, directors, agents, servants, volunteers, and employees, from any and all negligence, liability, damage, injury, loss, cost or expense, including reasonable attorneys fees, incurred by me and arising in connection with or as a result of my participation in the Regatta.

I confirm that I am not presenting any of the following symptoms of Covid-19 listed below and I confirm that I will withdraw from the regatta if at the time of the event I am presenting any of the following:

  • Fever
  • Shortness of breath
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Dry cough
  • Runny nose
  • Sore throat

I further confirm, to the best of my knowledge, that I have not been exposed within the last 14 days to anyone suffering from the Covid - 19 virus.

I agree to be bound by any restrictions put in place by the Lake Bluff Yacht Club in holding this event, including, but not limited to social distancing and the wearing of a face mask while on land.

Waiver of Liability

I agree on behalf of myself, children under my care, my heirs and assigns, to indemnify and hold harmless the Club, its employees and volunteers, and do hereby release them from any and all claims of liability for loss, personal injury, sickness, death or damages of any kind associated with, or arising from, (i) participation in the 2020 Sunfish Class Midwest Regional Regatta, (ii) any safety or rescue efforts undertaken by the Club, its employees, volunteers, or other persons or agencies assisting in such safety or rescue efforts, whether on land, in or on the water, or (iii) other actions taken in good faith for the safety, well being and health of the Club, its members, employees, volunteers and guests.
