NOTICE OF RACE

  1. RULES

The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).
 

1.1  All competitors shall wear personal flotation devices at all times while on the water except for brief periods when adjusting clothing. This modifies RRS 40.
1.2  TLE (Time limit expired)-Boats failing to finish within twenty (20) minutes after the first boat sails the course and finishes within the time limit will be scored TLE by the race committee without a hearing. This changes RRS 35, A4 and A5.

1.3  The Sailing Instructions may also change other racing rules.

 

  1. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
    1. Each competitor shall be a current member of his/her respective country’s Class Association affiliated to ISCA.
    2. Registration may be completed online at:  www.lakebluffyachtclub.org
    3. Checks are also accepted and should be made payable to Lake Bluff Yacht Club and mailed to - LBYC,    PO Box 292,  Lake Bluff, IL  60044 -  along with Entry Form on Addendum 1. Day of regatta registration will be accepted but meals will not be available to competitors not registered by August 15, 2021.

 

3.  ENTRY FEES

  1. Entry Fee: $30 (After 8/10/2021, $40)
  2. Registration fee includes as a minimum: Regatta favors, continental breakfast and on the water lunch on racing days, dinner on Saturday and post-race refreshments.  Additional activities will be announced at registration.
  3. Registration fees shall be free of any transfer and/or banking costs and/or commissions.  Any charge shall be reimbursed by competitors to complete their entries.

10:00 Hrs. First Warning, additional races to follow

14:30 Hrs. No Warning signal will be made after this time

Awards Ceremony after the conclusion of racing

 

Multiple back to back races will be sailed each day with lunch on the water.

 

  1. MEASUREMENT

       Boats and equipment must be compliant with current ISCA rules.  Boats may be selected for re-measurement at any time during the regatta by the ISCA Chief Measurer, or an appointed representative.

 

  1. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

     The Sailing Instructions will be available at check-in for the regatta.

 

  1. VENUE
    1. The regatta venue will be at Lake Bluff Yacht Club, Sunrise Beach Lake Bluff, IL.  Racing will be in the waters of Lake Michigan east of the Lake Bluff Sunrise Beach.
    2. Boats may be delivered to the beach area but all cars must be parked on the public streets on top of the bluff near the beach entrance.
  2. THE COURSES

The courses will be windward – leeward, triangles, or combinations thereof.

 

  1. PENALTY SYSTEM

Appendix V – Alternative Penalties will apply.

 

  1. SCORING
    1. The Low Point Scoring System, RRS Appendix A2, shall apply as modified by the Sailing Instructions and explained below.
    2. One (1) race is required to constitute a series.
    3. A maximum of twelve (12) races will be sailed.
    4. When fewer than six (6) races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. This modifies RRS A2.1.
    5. When six (6) to eleven (11) races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst race. This modifies RRS A2.1.
    6.   When twelve (12) races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her two worst scores. This modifies RRS A2.1
    7. TLE (Time limit expired) is added as a Scoring Abbreviation. Boats scored TLE will be scored points equal to the number of boats finishing within the time limit plus two points by the race committee without a hearing. This changes RRS A4 and A5.

 

  1. BERTHING

      Boats may be stored for the duration of the regatta within the Lake Bluff Yacht Club’s compound.

 

 

  1. PRIZES

      Prizes will be given as follows:

  1. Top five finishers
  2. Additional prizes may be given at the discretion of the Organizer

 

  1. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

      Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk.  See Rule 3, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.


 

  1. INSURANCE

     The organizing authority recommends that each competitor shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance.

 

  1. LODGING / TRANSPORTATION

 

     Local Hotels: Sleep Inn – North Chicago, IL , Courtyard by Marriott – Lake Forest, IL

 

      Many other hotels and motels available

 

      Housing: Due to Covid precautions, a very limited amount of housing will be available in club members’ homes. Please contact the Organizing Authority Representative to request housing.

    1.  Parking Restrictions and Car Access: There is no parking at Lake Bluff Beach. Competitors trailering their boats will be asked to drop off their boat and park at the top of the bluff or at a remote location, if requested by the Village of Lake Bluff or the Lake Bluff Park District. Beach access for cars and trailers will be limited to before 1000 hrs. on August 21st and to after the awards ceremony on August 22nd. Competitors wishing to drop off boats at the Lake Bluff Yacht Club storage compound on Friday, August 20, should contact Doug Warren, Regatta Chair, (847-204-7023), douglas.b.warren@gmail.com.
